HORIBA Group is proud to share that Atsushi Horiba OBE, Chairman & Group CEO of HORIBA, Ltd., has been named an Honorary Fellow of University College London (UCL), one of UCL’s distinguished honours.
The Honorary Fellowship recognises individuals who have made outstanding achievements in fields such as science, business and the arts, as well as those who have made significant contributions to UCL and its wider community.
Mr. HORIBA received the recognition for his contribution through the growing partnership between HORIBA Group and UCL, particularly their collaborative efforts toward the realisation of a sustainable society and the advancement of decarbonisation technologies.
The Fellowship was conferred at the UCL Fellowship Award Ceremony on September 10, 2026, at the Royal Festival Hall in London, UK.

A Partnership Advancing Sustainable Mobility
The relationship between HORIBA UK Limited and UCL formally began with a partnership agreement in 2021. Since then, the two organisations have expanded their collaboration through personnel exchanges, joint research and initiatives supporting new product and technology development.
A significant milestone in this partnership came in September 2026, when UCL established the HORIBA Chair of Advanced Propulsion Technologies, with Professor Thomas S. Miller of the UCL Faculty of Engineering appointed as its inaugural post-holder.
Through this initiative, UCL and HORIBA UK Limited are advancing research into next-generation propulsion technologies for highly efficient, low-emission transportation, including electric and fuel cell vehicles.
HORIBA UK Limited also supports two doctoral research students at UCL’s Advanced Propulsion Lab, contributing not only to cutting-edge research but also to the development of the next generation of engineering talent.
Together, these initiatives reflect HORIBA’s long-standing commitment to combining industry expertise, academic excellence and innovation to address some of society’s most important technological and environmental challenges.
Strengthening Collaboration for the Future
Reflecting on the recognition, Atsushi Horiba OBE said:
| “I am deeply honored to receive the title of Honorary Fellow from UCL. Since its founding, HORIBA Group has placed great importance on industry-academia collaboration and has worked with many universities and research institutions to address social challenges. Going forward, we will further strengthen our collaboration with UCL and devote even greater effort to advancing technologies that help realize a sustainable society, as well as to developing diverse talent that will support those technologies.” |
The Honorary Fellowship marks another important chapter in the relationship between HORIBA and UCL and reinforces a shared ambition to advance technology, nurture talent and accelerate progress toward a more sustainable and decarbonized society.
